Keeping the setting of Bianchi modular forms as our main example, we will introduce the derived Hecke algebra (which is a graded algebra acting on the cohomology of the relevant arithmetic manifold, whose degree 0 part corresponds to the 'usual' Hecke algebra) and will formulate the main conjecture of Venkatesh.
