In this seminar I will describe the main features of deformation theory, following the functorial approach of Mazur and describing the "frame" version introduced by Kisin.
I will describe some local-to-global methods for the computation of the universal deformation ring. Finally I will use these methods to compute the framed universal ring in the case
of a representation associated to the $p$-torsion points of an elliptic curve with bad reduction in one prime only. This work was inspired by a series of articles of Schoof about such curves and the local conditions I imposed correspond to reduction properties described in these articles.
